Dog’s Skin Issues

Hi I have a happy dog whose skin is not so happy. He’s scratching and chewing holes in his skin. I am always looking for holistic solutions. Been to the vet, when it became acute, who said it is a combo flea allergy and bacterial infection–put him on prednisone and antibiotics, which even though I was not wild about that idea, it did seem to clear it up. But then it came back around his tail, vet suggested Frontline to control the fleas. I have been fighting using that stuff for years, but since he does seem to be allergic to fleas, I put it on him. So now the chewing of his back and tail are clearing up, but now his belly and armpits are covered in a rash and brown scabs. I’ve been using castor oil with tea tree, lavender and roman chamomile but it doesn’t seem to be helping because he won’t stop licking it.
So, I wonder if he doesn’t normally empty his water bowl, how you know how much of this product they’re actually getting? I put his other tinctures (been giving him yucca for the inflammation) in capsules–then I know exactly how much he’s getting. Could I also do that with the Derma-IonX?

Dear Kris,
Be sure to treat the environment to kill the fleas and larva so that the new crops don’t keep hatching. I would stop the oils because it is not good to have him constantly licking it. The only one I would use would be lavender because it is a safer one on a long term basis.
Derma-IonX can be added to food or a treat so you will know how much he is actually consuming. It can also be sprayed onto irritated skin if you find it gives relief or retards infection. Generally it works better to spray and go for a walk giving it time to penetrate without being immediately licked off.
Please let us know how you progress or if you have any other questions.
Best wishes,

Thank you. I will let you know how it works out. Also have a cat with fleas allergies–ughhhh. Already sprayed some on her. It’s so much harder to treat cats, but the spray is great for her. Wish us luck!
